There are a number of approaches to achieving community development. This document is a compilation of the experiences of the Voice to the People project in seeking to facilitate community development through an improvement in service delivery by the government. The project seeks to improve and increase the interaction between citizens and the government as a means to ensuring accountability to the people. The Voice to the People project recorded instances of community-driven development, with citizens showing significant improvements in their ability to claim their rights and demand for the services to which they are entitled.
This document provides insight to some of the approaches that were used to achieve these successes. We recognise that communities and societies are not homogeneous, therefore, these approaches will not work exactly the same way as they have worked in the areas of V2P implementation. Therefore, we urge that these approaches are modified to suit the context of the specific society in which they would be used.
