As part of Voice to the People (V2P) key objective to increase the participation and representation of women and adolescent girls in informal and formal decision making structures, several trainings and activities have been organized for women and girls across all the project states.
This month in Kaduna state, over 100 women and girls from across 7 communities in 3 LGAs: Antung, Kurmin Jatau and Ungwan Barau in Jaba LGA, Mifi, Madamai and Mahuta in Kaura LGA and Giwa in Giwa LGA were selected, trained and mentored. The training focused on effective leadership skills, building their self-esteem and increasing their knowledge on governance processes and stages and how they can participate actively in decision making. The trainings were organized and facilitated by V2P partner- Legal Awareness for Nigerian Women (LEADs) with support from other individuals such as as Aisha Waziri (YES program Alumni).
The trained participants were excited about the new knowledge acquired and promised to step down the training to other women and girls in their different communities and even beyond. It is expected that the level of participation of women in decision making in these communities will increase and have a ripple effect to state and national levels.
V2P is committed to continually strengthen women’s & other marginalised peoples’ ‘power within’ – the personal self-confidence through knowledge and skills to ensure community decision-making is socially inclusive and cohesive.
